Rajasthan’s 10 major universities & higher education institutes 2026: courses, admission, location and ranking

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Rajasthan has some really good choices for higher education, whether you want engineering, law, management, or science. Each place focuses on different things, and how you get in changes depending on the course you pick. Just picking a university because you’ve heard its name isn’t enough. You need to look at the course, where it is, how much it costs, and how admission works.

This isn’t an official government ranking. It’s a list built around how well-known each place is, what NIRF 2025 data shows, and which courses actually matter to students.

Rajasthan’s 10 major universities & higher education institutes

1. BITS Pilani

Located in Pilani, this school offers engineering, science, pharmacy, and management. You can study for a B.E., M.Sc., or B.Pharm. as your first degree, and later go for an M.E., M.Pharm., M.P.H., MBA, or PhD.

For the B.E., you can pick from Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Mathematics and Computing. To get in for undergraduate study, you take the BITSAT 2026 exam. Higher degrees work differently, and for courses like M.E. or M.Pharm., your GATE or GPAT score can matter too.

Starting with the 2026-27 school year, BITS Pilani made a new deal: the top 500 students by BITSAT score get free tuition. There are other scholarships too, if you qualify.

In the NIRF 2025 rankings, BITS Pilani landed at number 7 among universities, jumping up from a rank of 23 the year before, and came in at number 11 for engineering. That’s the best result the school has ever had in these rankings.

One thing to know: BITS Pilani also has campuses in Goa, Hyderabad, and Dubai. This piece only covers the Pilani campus.

What should you look at before picking a university?

Start by checking if the course you actually want to study is even offered there. After that, look at what you need to qualify, which entrance exam you’ll need, the fees, whether there’s a hostel, where it’s located, and how admission works.

If ranking matters to you, pay attention to which category it’s ranked in. NIRF ranks universities, engineering schools, and management schools separately. Just because a school ranks well overall doesn’t mean it’s the best pick for every single course.

Which university is better in 2026?

There’s no single answer that works for everyone. If you’re focused on engineering or technology, BITS Pilani, IIT Jodhpur, and MNIT Jaipur are solid choices. If you’re looking at law, management, science, or commerce, other schools might fit you better.

Instead of searching for “the best university,” it makes more sense to compare schools based on your course, whether you qualify, your budget, location, and where you want your career to go. Before you apply anywhere, check the current fees, requirements, and admission details on the school’s own website, since these things change.
